About Us

More about 1st New Waltham Scouts

Based in Grimsby, we are one of 13 groups within Grimsby & Cleethorpes District. We have members from New Waltham, Waltham, Holton-Le-Clay, Scartho, Humberston, Cleethorpes and Tetney, attending our group. Every week over 90 young members of our community aged 6-14 join us to experience everyday adventures and learn new skills, by taking part in our fantastic Scouting programme. Our group ethos is all about scouting within the community, and this is at the heart of everything that we do. From our parents and carers supporting our programme through our parent rota, to members of or community visiting our group and sharing their knowledge and skills with our young members, to us volunteering to take part in improvement projects in our local area. We are very proud of the positive contribution we make within our community and in return, we appreciate the support we receive in all forms.

Our group opened in January 1965, and we are fortunate to call Cherry Garth Scout Campsite, our home. 1st New Waltham Scout Group, has 3 sections, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and continues to remain at capacity, following the efforts and hard work of our adult volunteers and supportive executive committee.

Our thriving and active scout group has a dedicated team of section volunteers who produce exciting and dynamic programmes for young members, teaching life skills, inspiring them to do their best, empowering them to build their confidence, as well as having plenty of fun along the way! Our young members attend regular weekly meetings, day away activities and the opportunity to experience camping trips, both at home and away.

Through everyday adventures, our members regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives, learning new skills and meeting lifelong friends through Scouting.

Grimsby and Cleethorpes District is part of Humberside County, and covers the areas of Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Humberston, Waltham, New Waltham, Holton-Le-Clay, Laceby, Keelby, Healing, Stallingborough and Immingham. There are thirteen groups of various sizes offering Scouting to over 600 young people, including adult leaders, assistants and instructors.

Scouts prepare young people for Skills For Life

Each week Scouts gives almost half a million people aged 6-25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience & skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians.

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.

We’re part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.

What do Scouts do?

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Volunteers

There are lots of ways you can get involved, from helping out occasionally on a parent rota or volunteering your time as a leader to supporting local Scouting. Our volunteering opportunities are as varied as you! Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the local village hall, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread for a group of very hungry eleven year olds - no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great.

Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.
