Subscriptions - We typically meet for six weeks during term time. However, depending on how the dates fall this may not be possible. Your section leaders will advise you in advance, of your return date and how many meetings there will be in the next term. This information will also be available on OSM. The first session for your young person, is FREE. During your young person’s first term, subs of £3.50 per evening is payable. However, after this it then becomes the following, which is due on the first night of the term: (unless your section leaders advise otherwise):
£21 (£3.50 per night) for a 6-week term.
The subscriptions contribute towards:
Membership to the Scouting community
Insurance for your child
Rental of Cherry Garth
Group equipment
Programme materials/equipment
Subsidising activities
*We request payments on the first night of term, as this aids both our planning and spending for specific planned sessions and materials required to run these sessions*
Camps or Activities – We offer the opportunity to attend several camps per year, and where possible we always try to keep the cost to a minimum. Costs will depend on where we camp, activities we take part in, and of course the food! In addition to camps, there may also be activities that we take part in that are extra to the programme, there may be times that we have to ask for a contribution towards these costs, with the group subsidising the remaining costs. We will always try and seek out the best price possible based on our status.
Investitures - A little after officially starting, there will be an ‘Investiture’ ceremony. This is where your young person officially becomes a member of The Scout Association. They are presented with a necker (neck scarf), woggle (band to hold the necker in place) and an initial set of badges, which are specific to our Scout Group. There is a £10 Investiture fee for this, which covers the cost of those items.
For those members moving through the section, should you require extra badges or a replacement necker, these can be purchased from the group. Replacement badges are £5 and replacement neckers are £5. You can of course keep your badges from a previous section and sew them into the new uniform. If keeping your necker from a previous section, this should be handed to your new section leader and should not be worn until invested into that section.
UK Headquarters membership fee - The UK Headquarters membership fee is calculated based on the number of Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts. The census of all adult and youth members takes place in January using the same online system that has been used for over a decade.
The fees payable will be calculated on only the number of young people in each Scout County/Area/Region (Scotland). The 2023 UKHQ membership fee for all members under 18 will be £45.50
Capitation is made up of 3 elements.
HQ Annual Membership Fee 2022 (see explanation below) £36.00
County Annual Membership Fee 2022 – County (see below) £7.00
District Annual Membership Fee 2022 – District £2.50
• Cost of the local Scout District
• Cost of Headquarters services to the Movement and the costs of organising and administering the Association, and to meet the Association's obligations to World Scouting. Throughout the year there will be the need to raise additional funds for the Group and section activities such as camps etc. These other costs within the Group are met by:
-
• Parent(s) / guardian(s)
-
• Fundraising events, grants and donations.
Additional fundraising is used to develop group activities and provide improved resources for scouting activities. Fundraising is not used to subsidise the level of subscriptions.
For information, our groups capitation fee for 2022, based on 72 young members was £3176.00. This cost was met between members and the group subsidising the cost. The cost passed onto members was £20 per member and £15 for subsequent siblings. The remainder was absorbed by the group. Unfortunately, there was no Scout Post in December 2021, and no other fundraising activities.
Looking forward to 2023, the cost of capitation will continue as this year £20 per member and £15 per subsequent sibling. This will be reviewed on an annual basis by our Executive Committee.
It is the policy of 1st New Waltham Scout Group that no one should be excluded from Scouting on financial grounds. If you are unable to pay all the subscriptions or contribute to costs for additional activities that are in the sections programme, please discuss this with your section leader or the Group Scout Leader. All conversations will be confidential, and all agreements are individual to personal circumstances. Our group funds are limited, but where we can, we will always work with parents/carers either contribute to costs or help towards subscriptions for an agreed time.
