How will my child benefit from joining Scouting?
We give young people the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.
Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.
1st New Waltham
1st New Waltham is a community focused group, we pride ourselves with the relationships we have forged not only with our young members families, but wider within the community.
As such there is an expecation that all parents/carers will volunteer on our parent rota at least twice a year. We are very fortunate that many of our parents participate on the rota and join us to help out at weekly sessions, otherwise in some cases the session may have been cancelled. If you have an interest in a particular area/hobby or have a skill you can share with our young people, please do let us know!
Below is the priority order of which we use to allocate available spaces.
1st New Waltham covers quite a large catchment area, and we do receive many direct enquiries. We have over 90 members currently across all 3 sections, which given the number of volunteers that we have is about right for our group. Since returning to face-to-face scouting following Covid our numbers have more than doubled, as have those on our want to join list (who are eagerly awaiting a space to become available). Being able to offer the opportunity for Scouts is obviously volunteer dependant. More information about volunteering can be found by clicking on the 'Adult Tab' at the top of the page.
We find it best to be honest about space availability, however we will always try out best to help!

In order to add the young person’s details to our records, please complete the form below, which will be sent to the Group Scout Leader.
1st New Waltham is a popular group due to it's location and the many surrounding areas. You will find details of how we prioritise spaces in Members/Group Policies/Want to Join Policy.
The following is a list of criteria that we use when allocating places to young people – in order of priority (highest priority first). Nevertheless, please note that allocation of all places is at the discretion of the Group Scout Leader.
*If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, it may be the case we can offer your young person an immidiate start. If you would like more information about volunteering or have any questions - please note this in 'other information' part of the application*
1. The young person is already a member of 1st New Waltham Scout Group and is moving up from the section below (ie Beavers to Cubs or Cubs to Scouts). In advance of any transition through sections, this will be discussed and a period of transition will be agreed. We appreciate that some members do not require this, and others may feel the need for taster sessions first, this will be discussed and agreed on an individual basis.
2. A parent or other adult family member commits to volunteering. We have many 'team based' volunteering roles of which we would be more than happy to discuss with you.
3. The young person is already a member of The Scout Association at a Group outside of Grimsby and Cleethorpes District and has recently moved house to Grimsby/Cleethorpes.
4. The young person has a sibling who is already a member of 1st New Waltham Scout Group.
5. After all of the above have been taken into account, the amount of time spent on the waiting list will be considered as a factor.
If we do not have any spaces in the section, or we are aware that those on the want to join list will fill any spaces in the future, we will contact you to advise of this. If we are unable to offer a space either for a specific section or on our want to join list, we will forward your details to our District Joining Coordinator, who will be able to advise of other spaces available in the district.
We would like to be able to offer a place to all young people that would like to join us, however in order to do this we require volunteers to join our team. As above, spaces are prioritised for young people who have an adult who is willing to volunteer.
